Battle City is a shooter game where the player controls a tank and has to destroy enemy tanks and protect their base.
In each level, the player controls a tank and has to destroy enemy tanks that come in from the top of the screen. These tanks from the other team try to destroy both the player's base and the person's tank. When all enemy tanks are destroyed, a level is finished. The game ends when the player's base is destroyed or when all lives are used up.
There are 35 different 13-unit wide by 13-unit high stages in Battle City. There are different kinds of terrain and hazards on each map.
